Will my grass fade in the sun?
The UV Warranty in Northern Europe is given as 7 years
How should I maintain the grass ?
The grass is easily maintained by keeping the lawn clear of debris by regular brushing which also keeps the pile looking good.
What about cleaning ?
Spills and matter such as presents left by the family dog can be washed off with warm water , mild household detergent and a brush. A hose may also work – the surface is ideal for pets. Using the pins around the perimeter also helps avoids pets lifting the edges.
Can weeds grow up through my new lawn?
Treat the area with weedkiller before laying the grass, the geotextile membrane and the backing of the grass will also discourage weeds.
Should I dress the grass with silica sand ?
Yes, a silica sand dressing at the spread rate recommended for the type of grass will help keep fibres upright and will increase protection to the base.
Is the grass safe for children ?
Yes. If you wish a safety matting can be added during installation to introduce an element shock aborption (available 35mm or 50mm thick)
What about Bar-B–Q’s on my lawn ?
No. Do not place your Bar-B-Q directly on the lawn – it is best to place your Bar-B-Q on slabs or bricks
Can my grass be used for poolside areas ?
Yes
Better for the environment ?
Yes , no need for pesticides and no mowing so no grass clippings
Can I install my new artificial lawn on top of my old one ?
Generally not recommended as the existing lawn will die and compact to give an uneven surface and rotting organic material may effect the life of the backing.
Is the grass permeable ?
Yes, the backing is perforated to allow water to pass through – the lower layers , the sub base should drain freely.
Can I grow trees / shrubs ?
There is no reason why the grass should not be cut out to facilitate such planting. Use a sharp knife like a “Stanley knife”
Does the grass have a pile ?
Yes, the pile needs to be laid in the same direction if adjacent rolls are used to avoid “striping”
Does the colour vary from roll to roll ?
Yes, like carpet the artificial grass needs to be from the same “batch” otherwise there is always a risk of shade differences.
What holds down the grass ?
Infilling the grass with silica sand will have the effect of weighting down the grass but at the edges steel “staple pins” can be used.
